The story of Som Pedals…
After years working in a guitar and piano store, I had spent my days learning and experimenting, in between selling and demonstrating products. Suddenly, lockdown came and I found myself without a job.
Hours, days, weeks of spare time on my hands; I taught myself basic electronics and started with a couple of pre-designed pedal kits. Quickly moving on (and probably skipping a few steps most people take in their pedal journey), I decided to design circuits and pedals.
So, I committed to many more months of reading, experimenting and prototyping. After the frustration, soldering burns and tears, the first few prototypes were working.
The next challenge is one that many designers and entrepreneurs face - The graphics. Water slide decals and screen printing are the go to option for most pedal makers.
However, I decided to play to my strengths (making things more difficult for myself) and you can see on our product page and instagram: 3D printed graphics plates, hand painted then, varnished for durability. I feel this gives the pedals a unique tactile quality, especially with products like the Velvet drive and its LED viewing lens.
If you have any queries, problems or questions please don’t hesitate to contact me (Som). Please give up to 3 working days for a reply due to me still spending most of my days grinding for “The Man”.
